Eljay’s in the Quay

Eljay’s Coffee LogoEljay’s Coffeehouse just opened last Thursday in the River Market (412 Delaware) in the same place that The Cup and Saucer occupied a few years ago. Leah and Joy (L and J, ElJay) are both excited about this new venture, and are confident it will hold its own where Cup and Saucer didn’t. Leah’s not just confident, she’s also friendly, generous, and perky! Their first day open, it was free coffee for everyone. How can you beat that? Oh, my mocha was spectacularly rich. Free and wonderful. Mmm!

Eljay’s InsideIt was from Leah that I heard the rumor that City Market Coffeehouse is closing. That would be a crying shame, I do so love the CMC. BUT, upon checking it out, the barista at CMC said that no, they weren’t closing, it is just a nasty rumor. One probably started by Eljay’s. Little did he know how close to the probable truth he actually struck.

Eljay’s kicks ass. They’re actually creating their own drinks! Try the Aztec Mocha (they used to just have Aztec Hot Chocolate, but I kept asking them to add a shot of espresso, and they added it to the menu)
It’s like hot chocolate, but with cayenne pepper. Made with Shatto milk…mmmmm….:)

Hello, hello! Thanks Tom! And thanks Scott C. for helping to put us on the map (figuratively and literally). Eljay’s River Market Coffee House (RMCH) is just beginning our third month in the special River Market Quay. We offer high quality drinks, great food, and a friendly and comfortable atmosphere, with free wi-fi! Thanks to 3 long cupping sessions at the roasterie I created Eljay’s signature blend. It mostly contains italian roasted beans from Ethopia and Sumatra. This gives my cup its dark, rich, and solid foundation. A vienna roast Colombia and a french roast Costa Rica give my cup its floral and citrus notes. My cup finishes clean. It is a great French/Italian roast blend and I have to say I am proud of it!! The Roasterie and I helped cup Ed’s Blend as well. Ed Blend is a friend of the family and is a staunch Starbucks drinker. I figured if he cupped a coffee that HE likes we can expect others like him to enjoy the cup as well. Along with the Roasterie, we use The Tea Market in Brookside for our out of this world tea experience. We use Shatto Milk only to ensure the best quality and to help our local economy of course. Also, we have found Annedore’s chocolates!! A long-time KC favorite is back and you can get it at Eljay’s! Because of this great find I have created a couple signature drinks using Annedore’s Aztec Chocolate Bark. We, of course have “Aztec Hot Chocolate” and because of Tom’s great idea we also have “Aztec Mocha.” Both are very yummy! We are starting to serve sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfast from Succotash. These are going over VERY well. So, come one, come all, Scott come back by to see us again! We hope to, one day, be well known in the coffee community and we need everyone’s help to do so. Thank you muchly!
