SoHo Fo Sho
Happy returns! SoHo Bakery and Cafe is back open, and better than ever. I can reverse my removal of them from the top ten list.![]()
Short, short version: new owners, new menu, same great coffee. Also, the decor is much better too. Now it looks like it belongs in downtown rather than Liberty :)

I sampled the SoHo Bakery and Cafe yesterday. I think that it warrants much better on the top 10 list of shops than it’s current number 10 spot. I would put SoHo Cafe and Bakery at least in the top 5. They make a fantastic latte with some of the best micro-foam that I’ve seen. On top of the fantastic latte, the food there is all made in house, by hand, and most of the ingredients in that food seems to come from local sources. A common thread that I’ve started to notice amongst the better espresso retailers here in Kansas City is that best espresso based drinks seem to be made with Parisi Espresso. SoHo uses Parisi Espresso, which I find to be far superior to The Roastarie’s Espresso. Every time I go into a shop that uses Roastarie Espresso the drink seems bitter, whereas every time I go into a shop that uses Parisi Espresso the drink seems very smooth. I’ll be going back to SoHo.

Thanks, Luke. I’m happy to know my love for making espresso drinks, and specifically steaming perfect micro-foam, was appreciated by another coffee enthusiast. It’s not often baristi get direct feedback from customers, and although I no longer work there, I really appreciate the compliment. I also agree with your point about Parisi, and I hope SoHo keeps them as a distributor, and that drink quality remains high.

Unfortunately, the fact that they are only open Monday-Friday, 7-2 virtually ensures that I will never, ever go there.
My regular coffee shop day is Sunday, sometimes Saturday. I like to socialize at coffee shops and sit for hours talking to friends… which necessitates weekend hours. Too bad. :-(
