A C-c-c-cup Ab-b-b-bove
What would this city do for coffee without God? A Cup Above is yet another installment of the church-group-fronted coffee shop series. I suppose that its not entirely a bad thing, as coffee shops have a tendancy to be barely-or-un-profitable. They need a 501c3 status to stay afloat.
Either way, I only judge the shops on their coffee, atmosphere and service. So, getting right down to it, the coffee was alright (good, but nothing outstanding), the atmosphere was cozy, and the staff was wired. Wired? In a coffee shop? Never. Between servicing the walk-in customers and the drive-through customers, they had their hands full, and had been at it since 5:30 AM. So yes, they had already had their coffee. Darn surprised the younger gal wasn’t stuttering.
One thing they have going for them up here in the northlands is that everything (everything) closes early. Except A Cup Above. They are open from well before dawn till well after sunset (weekdays till 8 and weekends till 10). With WiFi, a courtesey computer, lots of comfy seating, and great hours, I suspect this will become a successful hangout for high school and college kids in no time.
Goodness knows the northlands need something…

Good review, I think I agree right down the line. You know what other area needs something?–North Kansas City. It’s a small place, but there are definitely enough residents to support a local coffee shop. Instead, I always find myself driving to Westport or Chateau Dr.
