World of Knowledge, No Skill
The downtown library is full of books.
One would have hoped that one of those books explained how to make at least espresso, maybe even a mocha.
I had to try to explain it to this barista today. One burnt pull and 6 pumps of chocolate later… ::shudder::
She did, however, have one of the most awesome looking espresso machines I’ve ever seen. A brass tower. At $9,290, one would have hoped the library could have afforded to hire somebody who knows how to work it.

That espresso machine was ordered from Italy and was always a great irony to those of us who patronized the Library cafe frequently. The Library outsources the running of the cafe to some sort of food service company who are probably more used to operating school cafeterias than coffee shops.

A few weeks after that place opened, I went in and ordered an iced chai.
I was floored when they told me that… they didn’t have ice there.

I work just two blocks over from the Library. Honestly, I’ll go to Starbucks before I go to the Library for “coffee” – The Nine Muses Cafe serves pushbutton dreck. You’d figure someone there could twist a few knobs or make some adjustments to the machine so it at least spit out consistently mediocre beverages instead of consistent burnt ass.
They don’t even use that fancy Gensaco. Shame, I know of a good home for it. Mine!
