I learned on a completely manual machine and that is still the way I prefer to make espresso. Sure, it takes a little longer, but it feels more like a craft to me that way.

Good question.
Most are free.
Some are 'free for customers'. That can range from places like Eljays that just asks you to buy anything, to Westport Coffeehouse that requires your purchase to be $5 or more.
But most are free.

Just to clarify, is this a map of WiFi or FREE WiFi? (I'm 99.9% sure all the places on the map are free (because S'bux is the only place that doesn't realize that people won't pay for WiFi)), but at the same time, I'd hate to show up at a place then realize I need to pay to use the Interwebs.

I sampled the espresso at Eddie Delahunt's Cafe & today and I heartily agree that they make a fine latte there! My large latte was super smooooooth with beautiful microfoam and a skillfully poured rosetta. Nice atmosphere, friendly people, and masterfully crafted espresso drinks will keep me coming back to Eddie's.

I found myself in the Crossroads neighborhood again, so I decided to give YJ's another shot thinking that perhaps the last time I went there was an "off" day for their espresso. I can say that my experience this time was exactly the same as the last time. Their espresso tastes burned, with a bitter aftertaste. I'll give any coffee shop two attempts to woo me, as I realize that we all sometimes have "off" days, but if after the second attempt at getting a good latte, they don't deliver, I won't be going back. Sorry YJ, but I won't be back. Furthermore, I have now sampled a latte from every Coffee Shop on kcperky.com's top 10 list, which I consider to be a fairly accurate ranking of the KC independent coffee scene, and I don't know how YJ's even got ranked on the top 10 list, let alone in the number one spot.
